  • thy hair mostly the hours love: a smoothness which sings, saying (though love be a day) do not fear, we will go amaying

  • Always thy moist eyes are at kisses playing, whose strangeness much says;singing (though love be a day) for which girl art thou flowers bringing? To be thy lips is a sweet thing and small

  • Death, thee i call rich beyond wishing if this thou catch, else missing

  • (though love be a day and life be nothing, it shall not stop kissing)

  • cummings when god lets my body be when god lets my body be From each brave eye shall sprout a tree fruit that dangles therefrom the purpled world will dance upon Between my lips which did sing a rose shall beget the spring that maidens whom passion wastes will lay between their little breasts My strong fingers beneath the snow Into strenuous birds shall go my love walking in the grass their wings will touch with her face and all the while shall my heart be With the bulge and nuzzle of the sea e.e

The Thistle & Shamrock interview with Eddi Reader
Interview by Fiona Ritchie from the NPR radio show.

  • | Interview: Eddi Reader Singer Eddi Reader was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, eventually landing in London finding backing vocal work with the Eurythmics and Gang of Four

  • I mean, that has to be a bit of a dream come true for a singer

  • In fact, I seem to remember you saying it was like singing in the world's most elaborate and largest, as American's would say, 'restroom'

  • Tell us what it was like as a singer, just to experience singing in a big space like that? EDDI READER: Yeah, you know, where you go and sing when you're little is in the bathroom, and you practice within the bath, and everybody does, and in this Cathedral it was the best sound I've ever had

  • You mentioned it last night, the idea of trying your voice out in an echoey space when you're wee, and thinking about singing

  • When did you, in the bathroom or in the shower or wherever, when did you start to think, you know, this is sort of what I'd like to do? EDDI READER: Well, when I was little, we lived in the city centre of Glasgow which, at that time in the early '60s, had tenement buildings that were cheap housing for the workers and their wives and kids

    Grace Bumbry, Interview
American soprano/mezzo soprano. An interview with Operanet.

  • I've done everything, I've sung all the roles I wanted to sing, I've sung in all the major opera houses of the world, I've all the accolades I want, so now's the time to stop...as long as I continue to sing

  • I'm going to be singing concerts and recitals, so..

  • Operanet: Looking back, you've had an incredible operatic life, starting with Lotte Lehmann, then the impetus when you sang Venus under Wieland Wagner in Bayreuth, Carmen with von Karajan - what would you single out as events that gave you the most pleasure? GB: There was no one single thing

  • As you say, I started out on such a high note that there was really no place to go but up, so it was just a matter of continuing to sing all the roles you had to sing

  • Are you now passing on that heritage to your students

  • Don't you wonder where are the Aidas and Amnerises of today? GB: I don't really go to performances, but from time to time I do get to hear singers because they ask me to listen to them or auditions are being held

  • A lot of singers are not being given a chance for one reason or another - they may be the wrong race, they may be too heavy or they don't fit into that particular manager's scheme of things

    LM Montgomery
Includes biographical information and links to some of Montgomery's poems.

  • When the dark comes down, oh, the children fall asleep, And mothers in the fisher huts their happy vigils keep; There's music in the song they sing and music on the sea, The loving, lingering echoes of the twilight's litany, For toil has folded hands to dream, and care has ceased to frown, And every one's a lyric when the dark comes down

  • Off to the Fishing Ground T HERE'S a piping wind from a sunrise shore Blowing over a silver sea, There's a joyous voice in the lapsing tide That calls enticingly; The mist of dawn has taken flight To the dim horizon's bound, And with wide sails set and eager hearts We're off to the fishing ground

  • Ho, comrades mine, how that brave wind sings Like a great sea-harp afar! We whistle its wild notes back to it As we cross the harbour bar

  • Comrades, a song as the fleet goes out, A song of the orient sea, We are the heirs of its tingling strife, Its courage and liberty! Sing as the white sails cream and fill, And the foam in our wake is long, Sing till the headlands black and grim Echo us back our song! Oh, 'tis a glad and heartsome thing To wake ere the night be done And steer the course that our fathers steered In the path of the rising sun

    Mama Lisa's Eugene Field Page
Poems by the American poet Eugene Field.

  • It is yonder, out yonder, the Fly-Away Horse Speedeth ever and ever away- Over meadows and lane, over mountains and plains, Over streamlets that sing at their play; And over the sea like a ghost sweepeth he, While the ships they go sailing below, And he speedeth so fast that the men on the mast Adjudge him some portent of woe

  • Time was when the little toy dog was new, And the soldier was passing fair; And that was the time when our Little Boy Blue Kissed them and put them there

  • When you 've got to the tree, you would have a hard time To capture the fruit which I sing; The tree is so tall that no person could climb To the boughs where the sugar-plums swing! But up in that tree sits a chocolate cat, And a gingerbread dog prowls below-- And this is the way you contrive to get at Those sugar-plums tempting you so: You say but the word to that gingerbread dog And he barks with such terrible zest That the chocolate cat is at once all agog, As her swelling proportions attest

  • So shut your eyes while mother sings Of wonderful sights that be, And you shall see the beautiful things As you rock in the misty sea, Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three: Wynken, Blynken, And Nod

    Ouija Dancing
Ever Ouija danced? This site tells you how.

  • Then one of us had the nifty, but hardly unique, idea of using the computer's keyboard

  • Well, when we got jaded with the keyboard, into the flames it went, hissing and clicking all the way, all keyed up and board (yawn), just like the evil Ouija board that preceded it

  • By the way, I have typed this entire page, and many others, using only my trackball, cutting and pasting from pre-typed alphabets

  • What finally came out of these experiments in mad pseudo-science was what we call Ouija dancing (pronounced, in these parts, as 'WEE-jee-DAN-sing')

  • Slowly (starting, not surprisingly, with those who had done the dance before) hands started moving, while others stayed still

  • Little by little everyone's hands got into the dance, raising, lowering, and circling

  • You can also use Ouija Dancing for Dowsing

  • :-) fun! There will be a time, after a lot of practice, where you come to know certain spirits and by using a Ouija Board you can find out their names
