Can I use my old (4.2L) Valve Cover? You will need a Valve Cover for 1985 and older 258 model engines
If you are installing the MPI Kit, these will be removed and discarded with the Valve Cover
Remove PCV Hoses and PCV Valve from Valve Cover
Remove Valve Cover Bolts
Remove Valve Cover
Install valve cover
Torque valve cover bolts to 70 in/lbs
Do not forget the valve cover that will be an extra $25 to $50

This makes sense to me: if the valve stem seals were at fault, then they'd lose the most oil during highest intake manifold vacuum - during idle and off-throttle engine braking
With the throttle butterfly slammed shut, the vacuum gets high enough to draw a significant amount of air (and oil) from inside the head and past the valve stem seals, stems and guides
One of them hired a garage to replace their valve stem seals, and claimed that the oil consumption was cured
As much as anything, I was convinced that just replacing the valve stem seals was the Way To Go
