About of FIFA SOCCER BALL
GameSpy: FIFA Soccer 2004 Preview
Preview of the Xbox version by Christian Nutt. Includes screen shots. "While FIFA
hasn't been killed, the game is being severely retooled to capture the hearts ...
If a player runs up to the ball, pulls back his leg and kicks, there's a good chance that ten or twenty miniature animations blended together to result in that final look
The game's ball physics have also been completely reworked to offer a more accurate interplay between the players and the ball
In previous FIFA games, the ball was more or less tied to the controlling player as with an invisible rubber band -- but now, that rubber band has been cut loose
The ball has its own realistically calculated physics that allow it to behave much more like, well, a soccer ball
database is thirty times larger than last year's game, and individual players' personalities are represented -- for a player who likes to run downfield with the ball, that's what he'll do; a strong defender will guard tenaciously
The controller's face buttons, as always, pass and shoot the ball, but used in conjunction with the shoulder buttons you can modify your approach and move the ball in different ways
GameSpy: FIFA Soccer 2003 Review
Review of Xbox version by Kevin Murphy. Includes screen shots. "The best soccer
sim for the Xbox, period!" Score: 4 out of 5.
The ball controls more like an actual ball does
When you're running down the field, you get a true sense that the character you're controlling is dribbling the ball
Using the right analog stick, you can aim the ball in one direction while running in the other
To give a concrete example, when you're running to the right with the ball and you press the right analog stick to the right, your player will kick the ball out a bit, but not necessarily pass it
When your player dribbles the ball, it slows him down, but if he kicks it out just in front of himself, then he can speed up a bit and then control the ball again
This strategy can be risky as a defender can swoop in and grab the ball a bit easier, but it adds an element of strategy to the game when you're being rushed by two defenders from behind
Playing offense, pressing A passes the ball, X lobs it, Y performs a through-pass and B shoots, with R being used for sprinting
Sometimes it seems like one of your players is right next to the ball and yet they don't make a run for it
Or one player on defense won't go near a CPU-character with the ball

While GameCube isn't the lead platform for the franchise, FIFA 2002 continues the legacy to offer a great-playing soccer experience that will once again make football fans from all over the world very happy
You can also add ball spin at any time via the shoulder buttons (L for Left, R for Right
It's the little things, like number of stadiums, the inability to assign certain players to certain controllers in multiplayer (and other controller configurations), limited weather and time of day conditions, occasionally 'magnetic' ball physics, lack of player challenges, no penalty kick mode, and so on

Review of the Windows version by Michael Lafferty. Includes screen shots. Score:
9.4 out of 10.
The defense surges to stop him and just before theyarrive, he nudges the ball toward the far corner
The keeper wasn’t anticipatingthat, and seems to have been looking for a hard shot to the near post. The touch fools him and the ball finds the net
The game also introduces the freestylecontrol element, which allows for knock-ons, a faster way for a controllingplayer to move the ball
Instead of dribbling the ball, the player knocksit a short distance ahead, then sprints to keep up which serves toproduce a quicker attack
The game also features an intuitive airplay systemfor heading and volleying the ball
And for those that like rapid ball andplayer movement, the game does have through balls and through runs
FIFA Soccer 2003 is a terrific game thatwill delight soccer/football fans while creating a challenging and entertainingsports atmosphere
The game features a new physics schemethat captures player’s signature moves while keying on dynamic and realisticball movement

A through-ball can accomplish so much more, if the intended receiver is on the move, than a direct pass
In previous incarnations of this game, players were always on the run, drawbacks (toeing the ball backwards) were somewhat nonexistent, and little items, like chest traps, were rare

Review of Game Boy Advance version, by Kevin Murphy. "This portable soccer title
is okay, but the FIFA license demands better." Includes screen shots.
Running with the ball accurately is more of a challenge here than actually learning to dribble a real soccer ball, as the players here feel like they move like a wet sponge
While easy shots work in your favor too, the CPU has a much easier time getting possession of the ball
For instance, aside from performing a conservative tackle to get the ball, you can also just run next to an opponent and you might just magically start dribbling it
I can't tell you how many times I thought was trying to challenge the ball and just happen to receive it only to immediately kick it away and precede to lose a point to the CPU
Animation enhances the weirdness in the already bizarre-looking players, and the ball is hard to see on such a small screen

"EA Sports' best FIFA game to date." Score: 90 out of 100.
Reader Rating: » Rate This Game » Pros Cons Enhanced dribbling and ball physics; free kicks and set pieces are much more effective
The biggest changes from last years' version are in the gameplay department, where developer EA Canada tinkered with areas like passing, ball physics, and free kicks to add a more realistic feel to the game
Players had the tendency to 'suck' the ball up and the biscuit would tend stick to your shoes like fluttering toilet paper
The good folks at EA have tried to address this by making passing and ball physics much more realistic
Gone are the days of sprinting down the flank at full speed and keeping perfect control of the ball
Basically, the ball acts more like a bouncing piece of inflated leather than ever before
It was very easy to lose control of the ball, especially using the 'run-down-the-flank-with a-mid-fielder-and-try-to-cross-it-to-your-striker' method of attack that I have perfected during my years of playing earlier versions of FIFA
I eventually learned how to probe a defense and move the ball from player to player (a must, as holding onto the ball with a semi-skilled player is basically begging for a giveaway) with quick passes through open lanes

GameSpy: FIFA Soccer 2003 Review Review of GameCube version by Kevin Murphy. Includes screen shots. "If you're
looking for a great
soccer game, you can't go wrong with
FIFA Soccer 2003.
The biggest change in 2003 is how the ball handles
The ball feels much more separated from the players now, and the control even reflects this
Pressing the C-stick in a certain direction will have your player kick the ball in that direction -- well, kind of
If you stop and hit the C-stick to the left, your character will stop the ball from moving in front of him by putting his right foot in front of the ball and holding it there
If you hit the C-stick up and to the right, you'll kick the ball slightly ahead of you, avoiding any players downfield
It's a bit tough to learn, but mastering it will give you an advantage by making it much harder to steal the ball from you
On a free kick, you're no longer given an arrow, rather you just have to aim your player and kind of guess where the ball will land
A passes the ball, X lobs it, Y does a through-pass, and B shoots
Shooting the ball is much trickier now, as your aim has to be good, and you can't hold the button down
If you do hold the button down, you'll kick the ball into the crowd which might insight a riot

Windows version review by William Abner. Includes screen shots. "The FIFA engine's
overhaul is a huge improvement, but the AI and features are still lacking.
Reader Rating: » Rate This Game » Pros Cons Unequaled graphics and atmosphere; improved ball physics; fun multiplayer
No longer is the ball magically glued to your foot; instead, you actually dribble the ball and create space and can even lose control while sprinting
The passing physics are measurably better than before -- the ball doesn't float and hover in the air and passes are not always accurate, which leads to a much better game in the midfield
Sure, you have many formations from which to choose, but the days of trying to play long ball or counterattack are gone
FIFA soccer 2002 - Gamecube
Review [8.8/10]. "This is the best crowd animation that I have ever seen." [GameCube]
In most other courtiers, football as it's called is the bread-and-butter of all sports
It seemed passing was done baby style, and simply by pointing in the direction and hitting your button allowed you to pass the ball from yourself to a teammate
Pass the ball in that direction, and the camera smoothly takes you to that player and in full control
Similar to basketball, for you non-soccer players, the lead man has the ball and passes it to another
Once he receives the ball, he will pass it back to you

Shooting is now more difficult as they have improved the Keeper AI and tweaked the shooting dynamic so you have to position the ball exactly where you mean it to go
They fall for the same long ball tactic every time and are really slow when it comes to reading and intercepting opponents' passes
The players now make runs into space so you can utilize their pace to get behind defenders by passing the ball over or behind defenses -- which can make for some spectacular goals

For some reason, those of us who played football and baseball never were able to crack the chicks who dug these dudes who couldn't touch the ball with their hands
As sure as there is a soccer ball lovingly tucked under my son's crib, this problem with the ladies certainly did not change after I dropped all physical activities and started playing games
Along with your everyday pass and shoot buttons, spinning the ball in order for it to fade in direction or the other is powered by the controller's trigger buttons
Because the handling of the ball up and down the field is crucial in 2002 FIFA World Cup , having dedicated triggers that allow for the amount of spin is a delight
