| © 1999 - 2004, OutdoorPlaces.Com, All rights reserved Devils Fork State Park Located in northwestern South Carolina on the eastern edge of the Sumter National Forest, and located along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway, Devil's Fork State Park sits on the banks of massive Lake Jacassee
The 622 acre park is one of the newest in South Carolina created in 1990
The park itself is peppered with small waterfalls that eventually find their way to the waters of the Jacassee
If Devils Fork State Park was designed for anything, it was designed for doing nothing
Because the park is only ten years old, it has some of the most modern facilities of any park, state or national, in the country
Devils Path State Park offers 25 walk-in tent sites
One of the best ways to visit Devils Fork State Park is by canoe or kayak
Devils Fork State Park has two hiking trails
The trail gets its' name from the Oconee Bell, a wildflower indigenous to North and South Carolina that grows throughout the park
As a matter of fact, 95% of the world's population of these delicate white and pink flowers are found within the boundaries of Devils Fork State Park

| © 1999 - 2004, OutdoorPlaces.Com, All rights reserved Tishomingo State Park North of Tupelo Mississippi on the Natchez Trace Parkway, Tishomingo State Park is a 1, 530-acre extravaganza of outdoor activity located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains
The area has a long and rich history with artifacts dating back to 7, 000 B.C., created by paleo Indians, being unearthed in the park
Robberies and raids were very common in the heavily forested region and prior to the Civil War the trace was called, 'the devil's backbone.' Named after a Chickasaw Indian Chief, Tishomingo State Park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930's
If you want to explore some of the history of the park you can start at park headquarters
Donated in the early 1970's, the cabin was moved to the park from Prentiss County
In 1997 the park got a much-needed facelift and the improvements are evident today
The park has a 13-mile long trail system ranging from short and scenic loops to a six-mile long trek that follows Bear Creek as it wanders through the park
After crossing the bridge the trail passes by a series of cliffs, outcroppings and overhangs, including 60 foot Jean's Overhang, the largest in the park
