Now, all that said, I absolutely don't think that Joe Lieberman could throw the election to Republican Alan Schlesinger, who by all accounts is, charitably, a C-list bum
For one thing, the Republican incumbents can simply endorse Lieberman and look like 'centrists.' For another, he turns what should be a cakewalk election for Lamont into a relatively serious contest, drawing money, time and resources away from other races (including, again, our three House pickup opportunities)
But the perception was that he was too close to George Bush and this election was, in many respects, a referendum on the President more than anything else
